Overview:
The Maldives Right to Information Act was adopted in 2014 ranks among the stronger RTI laws globally, according to the respected RTI Rating. A decade after the adoption of the law, Transparency Maldives and the Information Commission took stock of implementation by undertaking a comprehensive assessment of the implementation of the Law, relying on CLD’s Comprehensive Methodology.
Overall, the Maldives achieved a mediocre grade.
While the Maldives scored a strong green on Central Measures due to the strong performance of the Information Commission, the Maldives obtained yellow (mediocre) scores for institutional measures, proactive and reactive disclosure, leading to an overall score of yellow (mediocre). This indicates that there is still ample need for improvement in overall implementation of the law.
