Overview:
The right of individuals to access information held by the government or public authorities, commonly referred to as the right to information (RTI), is recognised under both international law and the Kenyan constitution as a human right. Kenya’s Right to Information Act, which dates from 2016, is a relatively strong law according to the RTI Rating (rti-rating.org). However, having a strong law does not ensure proper implementation.
Overall, Kenya achieved a mediocre grade.
Kenya obtained mediocre grades in each assessment area, except reactive disclosure, which received a poor score. The strongest of the mediocre grades was for the Proactive Disclosure assessment area.
